Waiting - He Sent His Only Son
John 13:1, 4-5, 8
“It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He now showed them the full extent of His love... 4-5 so He got up from the meal, took off His outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him... 8 "No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet." NIV
This scripture might seem a little out of place for the Advent season, but it says much about “waiting”. The disciples were sitting around the Passover table waiting - waiting for the promised Messiah to take down the Romans and make Israel a great power once more. While they waited for Jesus to make some sort of major declaration and start a movement toward that end, He simply got up and wrapped a towel around Himself and did the unthinkable...He washed their feet. What? This did not match up with what they were expecting nor wanted. This did not match up with what they have been waiting for. It is not much unlike us. We look around at the world and we are desperate for God to send down some cataclysmic event to right every wrong and make everything right again. We look at some of the circumstances in our lives and want Him to just set things right. Instead, Jesus comes to us and bathes us in His love. He comes to clean our bathroom and do our laundry and scrub our floors. The love of the Messiah runs so deep and so wide He is more interested in fitting us for the Kingdom than He is making this kingdom right. He has plans for the end...and His love loves us to the end. He loves us to the end of ourselves. He loves us to the end of our lives. He loves us to the end of recorded time.
So how does this pertain to the Advent? Very simply...God so loved - He sent. He sent His Son to love us and He loves us so much He will love us until the end.
You are loved and prayed for. Pray for each other.
