God's Footstool by Pastor Roger
Greetings in the Strong Name of Jesus!
Each week I share a few thoughts I have had while reading through the One Year Bible. I wrote an entire devotional and have never really had the opportunity to share so I'm sharing some of those writings with you. Every once in a while, they hit kind of close to home, but isn't the way of God's Word His Word has a way of so often hitting us right where we need it. So, if these hit home with you every once in a while, it’s OK because it’s not me - it’s His Word.
Today is October 2nd and this is what the Word has to say to us today.
Isaiah 66:1-2 - “This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place? My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. *
I, the Lord, have spoken!” NLT
When I was about 8, I was a Cub Scout. One of our projects was to build a stool. We could build any kind, height or shape, it just had to build by our self and fit the loose description of a stool. Now I don’t quite remember how much of the stool I actually built, but my dad and I built a great stool and I even burned my name in the side of it. Years later, as we were cleaning out a bunch of stuff from my father’s house, guess what I found? An old stool with my name burned in the side of it. My parents had kept it all these years. It really wasn’t worth a whole lot and I threw it out, but it was pretty neat to see it and remember back to my Cub Scout days.
Our scripture today refers to the earth being God’s footstool. I have to tell you that is a pretty magnificent stool. And it is “way better” than my little old thing. Try to imagine a God so huge that He stretches out His feet upon the earth as though it were a footstool. That is a big God. Yet, our God is small enough to live in our hearts and minds. Yet, He is big enough to rule the entire universe. Yet, He is small enough to meet with me personally. Yet, He is big enough to hold all the stars in place. Yet, He is small enough to be born in a manger. Yet, He is big enough to command the armies of Heaven into victorious battle. Yet, He is small enough to walk with me through the most challenging of times.
Our God asks this question - “Could you build Me a temple as good as that?” Could we build a temple good enough to house the Master of the universe? The obvious answer is “No”. Yet, there is another answer, I think. He also says, “...everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken.” The other answer is this - God not only has the universe as His throne and the earth as His footstool, He has another temple just as beautiful, created by His Almighty hand - you and me. We are another temple in which He lives, when invited. The spiritual heart is shaped just right as to accommodate His presence and oh, how good it is when the Master of the Universe puts His feet up and lives in us, His temple.
Are you comfortable with Him in you?
You are loved and prayed for,
Pastor Roger
